NjordIC USA successfully delivered an in-depth desktop study that encompassed a comprehensive UXO Threat Assessment, a UXO Risk Assessment, and a UXO Risk Mitigation Strategy. The study was meticulously designed to assess and mitigate potential risks associated with UXO within a designated offshore lease area.
In executing this study, NjordIC USA leveraged an extensive range of historical data sources, including detailed records of naval minefields, daily operational reports from various naval vessels, and documented actions of German submarines operating in the area during wartime. By analyzing and cross-referencing these datasets, we were able to identify, with high accuracy, zones where UXO might still be present. This careful delineation enabled us to precisely map suspected areas, leading to a significant reduction in the scope of potentially dangerous zones within the lease areas. The ability to exclude substantial sections as non-suspicious provided the client with a clearer and more focused understanding of risk distribution across the site.
In the second phase of the study, NjordIC USA applied similar historical analysis techniques to the planned export cable routes. This involved an investigation of records specific to the route, once again utilizing unique and proprietary data sources. Through this detailed examination, we achieved a sharp delineation of suspect areas along the cable routes, reducing potential UXO-related concerns to a minimal and manageable number of zones.
Overall, the combination of historical data analysis, proprietary UXO Risk Assessment techniques, and targeted risk mitigation strategies provided the client with a robust framework to minimize UXO-related risks while maximizing the safe use of the lease and cable route areas.
