UXO Data analysis for OWF East Coast
For a leading offshore marine contractor, NjordIC USA undertook a comprehensive analysis of extensive magnetometric data to identify the potential presence of pUXO (possible Unexploded Ordnance) within a designated area. Leveraging a proprietary data processing and target-picking approach—uniquely developed in-house— NjordIC USA refined the raw magnetometric data and created an optimized list of objects. This specialized process ensured that the analysis was both precise and efficient, allowing for a higher confidence level in identifying UXO-related targets.
The creation of this optimized object list was a critical preparatory step in assessing the potential risks that pUXO might pose to subsea cable-laying activities. With this assessment, NjordIC USA was able to determine whether these pUXO targets would indeed be hazardous to cable-laying operations and, if so, whether such risks could be mitigated by (micro)rerouting the cables. Through rerouting, NjordIC USA aimed to minimize the likelihood of encounters with hazardous objects, enhancing both the safety and efficiency of the planned cable-laying project.
